Cable description JUNCTION BOXES
Medium-voltage junction boxes are basic devices used in electrical networks to connect medium-voltage cables, providing a point of interconnection and protection. They are made of a variety of materials, including steel, which offers strength, durability and protection against the elements. They are frequently used when, within a tunnel or industrial plant, it is necessary to carry power supply for long distances via medium-voltage cables Medium-voltage junction boxes are of the standardized type and suitable for making splices or shunts of M.V. cables with rated voltages of use up to 36 kV. They can be equipped with an auxiliary box to house the optical fiber. The octagonal version is made in the standard version from sheet steel and painted appropriately to withstand heavy stress and weathering. Stainless steel versions can be made upon request. Installation of junction boxes provides for outdoor environmental conditions max 45°C and min -20°C and a standard degree of protection IP55 that can go up to IP66. Other operating conditions and other degrees of protection can be evaluated upon request. In addition, it is possible to request the ATEX certified version to be installed in explosion hazard environments, in area classified Group I category M2 (mine) and in surface installations Group II 2GD with protection level Gb, complying with international IEC and European standards, as well as the ATEX 2014/34/EU directive. Installation of ATEX junction boxes provides for outdoor environmental conditions max 50°C and min -50°C and a standard degree of protection IP65 that can go up to an IP66. Other operating conditions and other degrees of protection can be evaluated upon request.
TECHNICAL SPECIFICS
The junction box is a strong and durable steel (standard or stainless steel) structure designed to contain and protect internal components from external damage. It can be of various sizes depending on the number of cables to be connected and the installation specifications. They can also be equipped with an auxiliary cassette to house fiber optics.
2Technical features:Inside the junction box are terminals or connectors for connecting medium-voltage cables. These connectors are made to ensure safe and reliable electrical contact, minimizing electrical losses. In the fiber version, in addition to terminals or connectors for medium-voltage cables, the cassette also includes elements for managing and distributing fiber optic cables.
4Protection:The box is designed to offer protection against the ingress of moisture, dust and other contaminants that could damage internal components and compromise network security and reliability. It also features a secure locking system that allows access only to authorized personnel. This ensures the safety of operators and prevents unauthorized access that could compromise the integrity of the power grid.
5Ductin in case of box with optical fibers: The box can be equipped with specially designed conduits or ducts to guide and protect fiber optic cables, minimizing the risk of mechanical damage or bending that could compromise fiber optic performance. In either case, steel medium-voltage junction boxes are designed to ensure safe and reliable operation of the power grid by providing a critical point of connection and protection for medium-voltage cables. The presence of fiber optics in cassettes with such technology also enables the transmission of data for power grid monitoring, control and management purposes, improving the overall efficiency and reliability of the system.
